Yesterday I finished running errands and shopping and helped Brian a little bit at the practice. We all enjoyed an early bedtime last night.
Today was a busy day as the kindergarten Sabbath School class participated in the Christmas program by singing "We Three Kings." Most of the kids were dressed as angels, but there were also three kings, Joseph, Mary, and a baby "Jesus." Clara was excited to be Mary holding one of her dolls as Jesus. Some older kids sang the verses and the kindergarteners joined in for the chorus. They were very enthusiastic in their little angel robes and tinsel crowns, waving stars in the air! The teachers, including Brian, had been working with the kids for several weeks and their practice paid off and it turned out well! The other youth classes got to participate as well, so it was extra special all throughout. Thankfully, this is not the only time of year where kids get to participate during church. It happens quite a lot and we're happy to be a part of a church where that is encouraged.
We also had the opportunity to help with serving and cleaning up for a Christmas meal that the church provided today, mostly for people that may not have family to be with and share Christmas with. There was an abundance of food and it was so very yummy! I really feel like I had my first Christmas dinner and hopefully the people that may be alone on Christmas Day felt that way, too.
Usually, by this close to Christmas, we're already spending time with either my family or Brian's, so it's actually been kind of fun to just experience Christmas at home. Don't worry, though, we're leaving soon to fly to see my family. And, we'll celebrate Christmas with Brian's family eventually. His parents are visiting Brian's sister's family in Alaska right now, since they just welcomed their first baby this week! We're so excited for all of them to be together...though I'm looking forward to meeting the little guy before he gets too big.
Since we're leaving so close to Christmas, we decided we would have the girls open their presents here before we leave. So, tonight I wrapped them all up while Brian took the girls to a Christmas concert. Though the Christmas concert sounded like fun, I knew I probably wouldn't have an opportunity tomorrow when I would be by myself. And, if I do, there are still lots of things to be done to get ready for our trip.
I hope all of you are able to spend time with family and friends over Christmas!
