Since I haven't posted since the beginning of summer, let me give you the highlights:
- I taught a six week summer A&P class
- Clara and Audrey were dedicated
- Brian and I were attendants in Eleanor and Andrey's wedding
- Brian, his dad, and many others helped put siding on the upper level of our house
- We celebrated Clara's first birthday
- Clara and I visited my parents in Oregon
- I went to my 10 year high school reunion
- Once home, I made preparations for my new job teaching full time at St. Ambrose University...more A&P
- Clara took her first steps a little over a week ago
Last week was my first week teaching. I saw my first cadavers and later in the week showed my students. I had prepared myself for the worst, but it turned out to be really neat to see the human structures after I've spent a few years talking about them.
Also, we finally, after a long process, found an excellent in-home daycare for Clara to go to on the three days a week that I teach. Clara has had some wonderful babysitters already, all
friends from church, but none of them were available all the times we needed someone during this school year. Of all the challenges parenthood brings, finding someone we trust and who is available to watch Clara has been the biggest challenge. Brian's answer to this is to not have any more children so it won't get more complicated. My parent's answer is to come live close to them. =)
Clara has gotten so big...less and less of a baby all the time. She is learning more words and signs. It is amazing how much she understands. I can tell her to bring me a book or put something in the trash and she'll do it (she will want to stay and play with the trash can,
though). It is fun to sit back and watch her use her imagination. When I'm doing laundry I give her the bag of clothespins and she gets pretty creative. Last week she put the clothespins through the little holes in the side of the laundry basket for quite awhile.
I took the picture above for Clara's first birthday. I put it on the cover of a book that I made of pictures from her first year. Hope you enjoy viewing the book.

clara looks like a little girl now. She's really growing up fast. Glad to hear you're doing well.
I remember my first cadaver. Fairly vividly, come to think of it... which I'm going to stop doing.
That book is great! Another publisher I've discovered recently that does a really nice job and has very low prices is Blurb. Good stuff.
Clara has changed so much just in the past couple of months since we saw her. I bet she is getting big enough to give her cousin Colton a run for his money.
Glad to hear all is going well! I've been wondering how things were for you guys, and your new teaching position. The book was beautiful. Clara is so pretty. We all miss not being able to see her at church!
