Next Move
A couple of afternoons ago we were listening to a community radio station online out of Fort Collins, CO. One of the song lyrics caught my ear and reminded me of the days when Ellen tried very hard to teach me the names of different bands. The only one that has stuck is David Byrne/Talking Heads. Anyways...the line from the song was..."I'm going to lasso you with my rubberband laser." It's so odd it still makes me chuckle.
Now, why were we listening to a radio station out of Fort Collins? That would be part of Brian's attempt to research different potential locations to start his practice. As a chiropractor, he has the opportunity to go anywhere he would like. This is both a blessing and a difficulty. While it is nice to be able to choose, we don't want to set down roots somewhere we won't be happy long term. As our parents well know, we regularly change our minds about locations. We have to make up our minds sometime in the near future since Brian graduates June 2009.
These are the places we have on our list. Fort Collins is still at the top, I think. Brian may have found some place better last night or this morning. Otherwise, the rest are in no particular order. Some places we may think we have eliminated only to come back to them in a week.
Fort Collins, CO
Springfield, MO
Coeur d'Alene, ID
Beatrice, NE
Boise, ID
Wichita, KS
Some place in Oregon or Washington
Fort Collins ranks highest currently because of a number of things. It has a decent climate, certainly less humidity than Iowa. There is lots to do outside in nature. It is about as close to halfway as we could get between our parents. People are open to alternative healthcare. There are many forward thinking churches, even one with a large number of homeschoolers. There is an academy close by. The Denver airport isn't too far away for catching flights. The negatives would be that we wouldn't be close to either of our families and the winters are cold and long.
I could make similar lists for each of the places...they all have their advantages and disadvantages. What do you think about where our next move should be?

I'd strike Springfield, MO off the list, but that's just from Leah's experiences in Branson. Apparently, Springfield only has one natural foods store...
If I had to choose between the cities you listed, I think I'd go for Coeur d'Alene. It's beautiful--and close to good people!
Coeur d'Alene was at the top of our list for a long time. The 15 ft. of snow they had this winter deterred us a bit. Also, it is very far from Brian's family and a little far from mine. Ceri, which good people were you referring to? Ellen, your information was helpful as well...we didn't know the natural foods store were that severely lacking in Missouri.
I think you should stay in the Quad Cities, but I didn't see that on your list. Let's see what does the QC have to offer:
1. Natural Food Stores--I see this is important for you guys
2. Several Museums
3. It's warmer than Minnesota
4. Close to several big cities, but yet still has a very rural feel
5. The cost of living is great
6. Black Hawk College ?
7. And, hey, we can always use another good chiropractor
In all sincerity, we hate to see you go...I mean we are still trying to get over Arthur and Becky's move!!! We'll be praying about it with you--wherever you go, you'll do great!
Okay...you know my pick...Wichita! We'd love to have you guys here.
Kirkland is nice this time of year.
Kendall, thanks for reminding us of Kirkland, WA. Actually the greater Portland and Seattle areas are now at the top of our list.
